Lately I have been getting a lot of new business from ladies who are the casualties of the acrylic nail bars. On a more regular basis I am seeing ladies with extremely damaged nail plates, infected cuticles and even nails that house no nail at all!
Today I visited a new lady who had used a particular nail bar for 12 months. I had already spoken to her and knew that her nails were going to be in poor condition. Firstly, I can not believe that these acrylic nail bars continue to use the electric sanders and drills on nails that are clearly in this condition and sometimes bordering infection and secondly, having spoken to this poor lady today, have no regard that the customer is in pain when they are removing the tips and acrylic.
The forefinger and middle finger were in the worst condition I have ever seen (see photo's). I am fully insured and prepared for these kind of casualties and usually I would not have even attempted to work on her nails. Both fingers has split in the middle of the nail plate and were merely held on by a piece of skin. Her other remaining nails varied in condition but overall they were very bad. This poor lady need my professional help.
I prepped the nail very gently and coated her nails with gel in the hope that this would allow her nails to grow and also to protect the two nails that were split from being pulled off. Sadly for this lady she is yet another victim of these butchers who work on a 'one in, one out' system, have no idea of your name and have no interest in the health and condition of your nails.
I dread these calls from women who have used these nail bars but the flip side of the coin is that I know that with my training and extensive knowledge of gels, they can hopefully regain healthy natural looking nails.
Unfortunately I can never give the guarantee that damaged nails will last the full 2 - 3 weeks like a healthy nail but rest assured, using gels will never damage and infect your nails like acrylics.
I still see this lovely lady on a 3 weekly basis. Thankfully she was a lady that took my advice and 'rode the storm' with her nails. They were very distressed and in a very poor state. I saw her for her infils in April (her 6th treatment) and she now has her own long nails that are healthy and strong. Many customers decide to stick with acrylics and I hope that they never have to go through what this lady did. Patience has paid off.
Kirsty :-)
