Hi everyone,
I have had a few emails recently regarding bridal nails. I have also recently visited a couple of brides that have asked 'what's the norm for a wedding day?' The truth is, anything! What I can tell you from my many years in this business and given the fact that I have manicured so many brides (I have lost count!) the typical French manicure is showing signs of dating and is requested very little these days. 21st century brides are more daring, choosing very random colours for their colour scene and seem to be tying their Shellac manicures into their chosen colour theme. The brides I have done this week both had colour. One decided on Wildfire (bright red) as her bridesmaids were all in navy and the other bride opted for Hot Pot Pink as her bridesmaids were in a black and pink.
Whatever you decide has to be what you feel comfortable with, but I will say, French is the safe option and not necessarily the manicure of choice. If each bride were to shy away from the traditional 'safe and neutral option' I'm sure we would see some amazing nail colours on wedding snaps.
When I married just over three years ago, we chose Bonfire Night in the highlands of Scotland. Given the season, the mountainous location and my vintage lace dress, I opted for bright red in Shellac. It blended perfectly with my winter colour scheme and looked fab on the photos too. So, if you are in a dilemma, choose your nail colour around the season of your wedding and if you want the safe option, just choose a very delicate pink/nude finish.
Your nails are the first thing your future husband will see when he slips that ring on your finger. At that very moment, your nails will be the furthest thing from your mind, but, when you look back at that cherished memory, you may just be glad you chose the colour that you did. I was, that's for sure :-)
I was let down at the last minute by a local nail technician and called Pinkies. Kirsty changed her day to accomodate us and we now have THE MOST AMAZING NAILS! I realise now that I should certainly do more research in future. Pinkies really are the best, thank goodness I googled you! My nails look perfect for my wedding tomorrow.
